Joanna H. Zimmerman, Ph.D.

Joanna H. Zimmerman, Ph.D.

Dr. Joanna H. Zimmerman earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2009 from Catholic University. She is currently a Resident in Psychology working toward licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in the state of Virginia. Prior to joining the Growth and Recovery Center, Dr. Zimmerman trained for 2 years each at George Mason University’s Counseling and Psychological Services and Children’s National Medical Center’s Donald Delaney Eating Disorder Clinic, among other placements. Dr. Zimmerman completed her Master’s Thesis in the area of suicide attempts in adolescents and her Doctoral Dissertation in the area of eating disorders in adolescents.

Dr. Zimmerman specializes in providing therapy to adolescents, young adults, and families struggling with a wide-range of concerns, including eating disorders and body image issues, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. Dr. Zimmerman utilizes psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, feminist, and humanist frameworks to help clients grow, create change, and self-actualize.
