Shonna Pope is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who obtained her Master’s degree in Social Services from Bryn Mawr College in 1995. She is currently in private practice at the Growth and Recovery Center providing psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families and groups. Her focus in psychotherapy is to guide clients to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Through counseling clients to seek their truth, she holds the relationship as a source of healing and empowerment. Shonna has an eclectic approach with her clients and treats every person as an individual with his/her own needs.
Shonna has worked extensively with women’s issues and has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 1990. Through her training and employment with the Renfrew Center (the first residential facility in the country to specialize in the treatment of eating disorders), Ms. Pope has gained knowledge on the various interpersonal, cultural and familial issues that underlie eating disorders.
Although Shonna has specialized in working with eating disorders, she also works with a variety of other issues including chronic illness, chronic pain, stress management, grief/loss, relationship problems, depression and anxiety. She has a special interest in working with college age clients who are struggling with adjustment and transition.
Shonna is currently leading a group for those living with chronic pain. The group incorporates mindfulness techniques, meditation/relaxation, stress management and the power of positive thinking. For a more detailed description of the group, please refer to the group section of the site.
