Lee Chase, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist licensed in the states of Virginia and Maryland. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where her research focus was on sexual abuse and trauma. She completed her predoctoral internship at a psychoanalytic training and treatment facility, The Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, in New York City, NY. After graduation, she worked for five years at a university hospital child development center, providing psychological evaluations and therapy as part of a developmental assessment and treatment team.
In addition to these experiences, Dr. Chase has worked in a variety of clinical settings during her over twenty years of practice, including hospital inpatient psychiatric units (children and adults), community mental health centers, and private group settings. She has been in private practice since 2000.
Services
Dr. Chase offers individual psychotherapy for older children who may be struggling with concerns in such areas as depression, loss, anxiety, self-esteem, and academic and social functioning. Dr. Chase provides adjunct services such as parent counseling and consultation with school officials to further develop self-esteem, academic success and improved social integration. She also offers consultations to parents who are seeking a fresh perspective and recommendations for direction, based upon a review of their child’s diagnostic and treatment history.
Dr. Chase’s work with adolescents and young adults includes furthering the development of self-identity, emotional regulation and coping skills, navigating relationships, and making effective transitions to college and/or post-graduation plans.
Dr. Chase provides psychotherapy for adults who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, loss, the effects of trauma, and their own developmental transitions, be it to college, adulthood, or to mid-life and beyond.
Treatment Philosophy
Dr. Chase believes that the relationship between therapist and client is vitally connected to the success of the treatment. She provides a supportive, yet interactive environment that promotes trust and safety and encourages self-exploration. Dr. Chase’s understanding of a client’s history of events and relationships provides a backdrop to help clarify current means of coping and relating to others. She provides education, not only about the process of psychotherapy, but also regarding self-regulation of emotions and thoughts as a means of skill development. There is an emphasis on identifying strengths and deepening competencies, empowering clients to clarify their own perspectives and pursue what it important to them.
Dr. Chase understands the value of collaboration with other relevant professionals involved in the client’s care, and when permitted by the client, may have contact with other therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, or school officials, in order to support treatment progress.
