Janine Murphy-Neilson is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She
received a BFA in theatre from Boston University and a Master's
in Counseling from Marymount University. She also received post-master's
training from the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Virginia
Tech.
Janine works with adolescent and adult individuals, couples and
families. Her experience covers a variety of issues including depression,
anxiety, parenting, relationship struggles and families dealing
with cancer and chronic illness. She also has a special interest
in grief issues and recently attended a conference with grief expert
Therese Rando.
She has worked in the counseling field since 1996. Past experiences
include working as a case manager for the Prince William County's
home-based family therapy program followed by six years at The Women
Center in Vienna providing individual, couples and family counseling.
Also at The Women Center she was a part of a grant based program
designed to help prevent child abuse by working with children and
their parents providing assessments and therapy. Since 1996 she
has also worked with Creative Counseling Associates in Vienna where
she continues to co-lead general therapy groups.
Janine believes in focusing and building on clients' strengths
and actively works with clients to help them make desired changes.
